Guns People Play I

Bad judgment indeed!
INDUS, Minn. - A school principal has resigned and could face felony firearm charges after he shot and killed two orphaned kittens on school property last month.

Wade Pilloud, who resigned as principal of the K-12 Indus school, 40 miles west of International Falls, said he shot the kittens to spare them from starving to death after their mother was killed in an animal trap.

Guns on school property is such a great idea ... not! And who's to say that someone else won't use bad judgment in another, more close to home way, such as in the heat of an argument. The Other Side of my Mouth will document these incidents as they occur, because there are certain people, like those who drink beer while wielding firearms (you know who you are), who should just not be allowed to carry.

  1. Well, that's what Minnesota gets for not passing that other great idea from our Republican legislators -- the feral-cat-killing law.

  2. Feral cat killing should only be allowed on school grounds!

Actually, they could add this to gym class: Kids who are the best shot and kill the most kittens get the best grades.

  3. I think cats make great stew...

Having said that, I think this principal is a friggin' idiot (unless there's a good deal MORE to the story which went un-reported.)

However, defending children from predators should not be confused with shooting kittens.

  4. Unless, of course, the kittens are preying on the children...

  5. Which brings us back to the real question: Why did he have a gun a school property? To expect gun owners to act rationally 100% of the time is not possible.

I stay out of areas and at certain times in areas where the threat of guns is highest. Conceal and carry brings that threat to me. I'm not in favor of that.

  6. Umnnnhhh...

You state that he acted "irrationally," which implies that his use of the gun somehow endangered human lives.

I don't think you have a fact-foundation for that claim.

I don't think he should have shot the friggin' cats--but to construct some Doomsday scenario out of the facts presented in the article......

    ....paranoia comes to mind.

  7. Now that wasn't nice.

Come on, daddio. He had a gun on school property and discharged it on school property. If you don't think that was acting irrationally, then for sure I wouldn't want you carrying a concealed gun.

  8. Also, it's against federal law to possess a gun on school property.

  9. Mixter, I think you're wrong on the FedLaw, (some legal-beagle demonstrated that on a blog someplace...)

Let's say ad arguendam that his possession of the gun was legal.

OtherSide claims that merely firing a gun 'on school property' is 'irrational.' I don't think that you can make that case.

Silly, yes. Stupid, maybe. "Irrational"? That connotes dementia.

If there were no other humans within (say) 1000 feet--NONE--and the critter was a rattlesnake, not a kitten, is it "irrational"?

MAYBE "irresponsible." But that's not exactly the same as "endangering lives of millions," nor "hundreds," nor "tens," --is it?

  11. Dad's right about the gun law. It was found to be unconstitutional. My bad.

Anyway, those kittens were just asking for it...
