I really don't care if Mark Riordan is replaced at 620 WTMJ. However, Belle at Leaning Blue provides a list of characteristics for voting purposes along with pics of the current members of the lineup.

James at Wigderson Library & Pub makes the excellent observation that it's radio, who cares what anyone looks like.

I must say, that after looking at the guys, my only comment is...there's a real hair problem at WTMJ. I mean, come on. Charlie Yikes looks like his is greased on. Jeff Wagner's looks like...well, nobody really looks that hokey, do they? Jonathan Green...look out for Ragnar Mentaire's flys.

Disinformation Part Two

Read comment under first posting titled Disinformation. One comment before continuing...James claims on his blog that I took his remarks out of context. It's hard to understand how that could have happened. His only remark was restricted to one sentence...the rest was a recap of the part he cherry picked from the article. I didn't know you could take one sentence out of context. Now if James had continued in his original piece with the information he provided in his comment, AND I had replied as I did, then he would have had a good argument.

But, still, this is why I like James. He's not afraid to weigh in, understands that amongst the serious issues one can still entertain.

Anyway, everything in his comment I essentially agree with, except that "trickle down" just don't work, James. If it did, then why has nothing changed for the better? And, I continue to say that my post was not inaccurate. He did cherry pick facts in an attempt to be sarcastic. Sarcasm is very difficult to write. Only the best writers can master it and I am by no means even close to doing so. James, if the sarcasm in something you write is only visible to you, then it wasn't done well.

Disinformation

The report by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and the Economic Policy Institute, both liberal-leaning think tanks, found the incomes of the poorest 20 percent of families nationally grew by an average of $2,660, or 19 percent, over the past 20 years.

The truth is, "rich get richer, poor get richer, too."

The problem with James’ post is he’s cherry-picking facts from the article. At least he provided a link to the article. If one clicked on the link, one would find that while it is true that the poorest fifth saw their income go up 19 percent, one would also find that:

The middle fifth’s income rose 28%
The richest fifth’s income rose 59%

One would think in a fairer society that income would go up at the same rate for all…but the last twenty years of Republican majority have resulted in a growing disparity between the richest and poorest Americans…which is what the article focused on, not on the meager growth deceptively highlighted by James.

Hell Is Where The Heart Is

I love blogging. There is serious commentary out in the blogsphere, which is gratifying and intellectually stimulating. And then there are the nimrods. They are there only to be read and provide amusement. They don't know that, but that's part of the fun.

Anyway, I was checking out the I Am The Force blog (author's name is Ragnar Mentaire) because he had made a silly response to one of my comments on another blog. He has a piece titled "Hell Is The Answer."

This is good...the guy says that we should advertise hell more forcefully and that way more people will be made to turn to Christianity...especially those following the false religions of Islam and Buddhism. These will be brought down by advertising.

According to Mentaire the Midget, hell and its eternal suffering should be on everyone's mind, every day, whether in America or China. He recommends using billboards and satellite television, newspapers and magazines to spread the message of hell. It's high time, he pontificates, for people to come around.

Seems to me we already have way too much Christian advertising. One can view it every day on telelvision...the 700 Club, TBN, Catholic TV, creationists with their own shows, etc. It's on the web, it's mailed into our homes, it's on every other street corner, it's on news shows where these prophets(?) make incoherent announcements and the drivel is lapped up by thousands...it's everywhere. But that's not good enough for Lord Mentaire, no, we need MORE FEAR.

Got news for you buster, Fred Phelps would love you to join his church in Kansas.

Your vision of Christianity has the blood of millions on its hands and the new inquisitors are doing their damned best to add a few more innocent souls to the tally sheet. So, go away, little Ragnar, I don't fear you and there are many who don't buy this message of fear that you and others proscribe.

I am not a believer...never will be (this aside is to cut off any sanctimony from you...not even on my deathbed!). However, I have the greatest respect for those followers of Jesus who believe in his loving message. And, I have great respect for anyone who, through their own faith, live good and peaceful lives with best wishes for all.

So, Ragnar Mentaire...one last word. I'm not sure why you need more advertisement, you're already living in hell. Why don't you climb out and join the rest of us.

Blow Hardlys

Both Jessica McBride and 620 WTMJ call-in radio host, Charlie Yikes, like to talk, frequently, about their perception that liberals are all about shutting down freedom of speech...especially when it regards criticism of what they have to say. Jessica and Charlie, how about opening up your blogs to comments and Charlie, get rid of the screeners. Screening out all except those who march in step with you is not freedom of speech, it's Goebbelesque.

What is especially childish is McBride's publishing of a private e-mail to her and her subsequent demeaning comments about the author. If the author had recourse to respond publically, that would be one thing...but in the world of McBride and Yikes...real discourse is forbidden. Why? Because they are both afraid to have real debate.

This gem was seen at Xoff. I couldn't resist.

I read on a now retired wing nut blog that the blogger and 20-30 others were ready to "throw down" for Jessica McBride. If that's the opposite of throwing up, does that mean you're willing to s--t in your pants for McBride?

Silly Wing Nut

Jeff Wagner continues to amuse me. Just the other day he was discussing "hate crimes" on his 620 WTMJ call-in radio show. Wagner's point of view was there was no need for hate crime legislation because the law was sufficient. I'm not going to debate whether that is true or not. What was an issue for me was his continued use in examples of Republicans as targets. Some samples were (these are just the gist of what he said, not exact words): "What if the person being attacked was a Republican. " Or, "What if it was a Republican who was lynched." Or, "What if it was a Republican who was chained to the back of the car, called all sorts of vile names like "wingnut" and "neocon" and then was dragged to his death.

Let's see...I have read that the law is aimed at violence perpetrated against specifically targeted people, not a constitutionally protected action such as speech. Targeted people might include African Americans. Hmmm, there's been a history of violence there. How about gay people. You may not like how they dress, how they talk or how they walk...that's your right. But, yeah, they've been targeted for some pretty malicious stuff.

But Republicans? Come on, Jeff. Stop playing the poor me card. All you do is make a fool of yourself, gosh durn it.

Swimming in the Mud

I don't claim to know much about state politics. Hell, I could, for the most part, care less about local politics. I like the big, juicy stuff like baseball trades, the abortion wars, the weird and defenseless of marriage, etc. However, I have read a bit lately about the beginnings of...gasp...dare I say it...Travelgate...in Madison (Watergate really did us a disservice...we need to come up with other ways to describe travesty rather than by adding the word "gate"). It has seemed interesting. I've read Xoff's points of views. I have read Charlie Yikes'. I've read stuff from other blogs on both sides.

However, the following item was gotten from Xoff (hat tip) and was really well done...and it's ostensibly from a conservative. At least that was my assumption after reading Xoff state that it came from an unexpected source. I jumped over to Playground Politics to see for myself and found a dose of conservativism with lots of pragmatism.

Anyway, the main points of the piece are below. The entire piece can be reached here. It's recommended reading...for the two or three who read stuff here (thanks Mom). Good work, Playground Politics.

Those who try to paint Thompson as a Doyle ally are missing the point that she was hired while Scott McCallum was governor. She is not, as Mark Green would have you believe, "an official of Governor Doyle's administration." Doyle had nothing to do with her hiring and Thompson, having passed her review process, has job protection that precludes her from being disciplined prior to the outcome of this case. She can be transferred into another job, and that's about it. And Mark Green, as a former legislator, damn well knows that.

Scott Walker's release, on the other hand, shows only that the man is incapable of understanding what the indictment actually says. Walker would like to infer that Thompson was pressured into using political considerations in the course of her work, something not indicated anywhere in the actual indictment. Of course, Scott's a college dropout.

The Racers Edge

I keep running into inconsiderate drivers. I generally attribute their misbehavior to being moronic, conservative, or both. Usually both. I suspect I’m right most of the time. The usual culprits have shorter hair, look in their mid-twenties to low thirties, have a nice car (one I wish I had, I admit) and look…Republican. Come on, you know the look…”Fuck you, I voted for the winning party and you’re just a loser.” You know, not very intelligent looking.

I’ve been inspired by StB. He has his own piece on this subject (apparently others, too). It’s obviously important to him and he drinks. He should seriously consider AA, but he hasn’t reached that place in his life where everything is viewed from down under. Besides, he probably thinks AA is for losers and…gasp…liberals. Another sure sign of his being in need of help.

Anyway, his post about his encounter with this guy reminded me of encounters I’ve had with people like him (except I’m at least 10 miles an hour over the speed limit…always).

So I’m doing about 68 in a 55 and this guy gets on my butt and flips on the brights. Uh, excuse me, I’m going way over the speed limit, I can’t get over to the right because there are two cars next to me and why are you being such a dick (note to StB: you said never be a dick…you already were when you got on the guy’s ass and flipped the lights)?

Anyway, my plan is to get over and let this butthead by, but now he starts flipping his lights on and off at me. So, yeah, I tap the brakes. Now, StB thinks this is a pussy move. Sorry, ding dong, you’re the one behind me being the ass…I have the power, not you. So, back off and how do you know I’m not packing? You don’t (I’m gonna love the concealed weapon law…morons like StB will never tailgate again…won’t they?).

I’ve now sped up a bit to get in front of the traffic on my right just so Speed Racer can zip by. I pull over and look over at this DICK as he passes by and he starts clapping. I was wrong all the time. He’s not a dick, he a trained seal. He’s even got the sparse covering of whiskers to prove it. I didn’t know they could get licenses.


Well this was a fun exercise. For the amount of time it took to write this (much shorter than StB I’ll bet) I was able to step into the shoes of a conservative and experience how it feels to be a knob. It’s not that much fun…you see, I don’t like to act like a dick. So I’ll just let StB be the one and hope he gets help someday.

I think I am beginning to seriously dislike Jessica McBride. Her uppity piece about Senator Feingold coming to Waukesha with the comment that maybe a bunch of conservatives should go and hit him with some tough questions is silly...again. At least Feingold would let them in to ask those questions.

Would't it be great if our President actually addressed groups made up of all sorts of citizens, not just Republican fundies. Or, heaven forbid, Jessica McBride opened up comments on her site.

I Remember Gene McCarthy

I was only 12 when Gene McCarthy shook up the political world with his quixotic run for the Democratic nomination...but I remember the excitement he caused. He was beaten down by the machine, but his legacy of leading and speaking the truth lived on.

Molly Ivins writes that she can't vote for leading Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, for a number of reasons, which she provides here. I agree with Ivins. I'll say this for President Shrub, he takes a stand and sticks by it, even if its illegal and immoral. I'm not suggesting that the Dems need to follow his weaseling ways...but we do need a leader...and not someone who just says he or she is a uniter or turns in their stance to match the prevailing political wind.

MSM Absent Without Leave

The mainstream media has bent over backward to get on President Shrub's good side. It's most apparent in its coverage of the illegal wiretaps performed by the administration. As John Sugg points out, the media has given the Bushies a free ride for many years.

Way Too Lenient

Even though the wing nut response to the tire slashing incident was extreme, this liberal feels that the defendants got off way too lightly. There should have been some sort of term in jail...not as long as conservatives hoped for, but nonetheless, some sort of incarceration should have occurred.

Representative Gwen Moore said this was all political. A lot was, especially on the right. But there was politics on the left...the damage was done to vans owned by the other side. However, especially tiresome were Jeff Wagner's constant implications that Republicans never did anything illegal...where have you been, Jeff? Does the name "Duke" Cunningham ring a bell?

In any case, Gwen Moore's son and the others should count their lucky stars. It should have been worse.

Bullying Tactics

The wing nuts love to bully others. If they can't win an argument in the marketplace of ideas, or if it appears that citizens are wising up to their antics, then they resort to bullying and lies. A case in point:

D. Logan Darrow Clements (there's a mouthful), a former Republican candidate for governor in California has decided that he didn't like the eminent domain ruling handed down recently by the U.S. Supreme Court. The 5-4 ruling was split along party lines, with outgoing Justice Sanda Day O'Connor siding with the conservative wing.

All right, people are not always going to agree with Supreme Court rulings. But Clements, in a blatant act of self advertisement, has decided to go one step better by attempting to have Justice David Souter's home grabbed by the local town and turned into a money-making venture called the Lost Liberty Hotel.

Local authorities are certain the measure will lose in a landslide, some calling this act by Clements one of revenge. To this writer, Clements is just another pathetic example of wing nuts out of control. He's a bully. Let him have his day in the sun because that's what free speech is all about...then someone please yell "Fire" and have that small little man washed away.

No Apology for Wing Nuts

James Wigderson at Wigderson Library & Pub has taken it upon himself to demand an apology from Bill Christofferson. Fact is, Christofferson hit it right on the money when he demanded an apology from Charlie Sykes, right-wing squawker at 620 WTMJ, who was the author of an audio that equated Governor Jim Doyle with racists of old. All because Doyle opposes lifting the cap for school choice.

Charlie Sykes has never given a damn about African Americans. It’s all politics to him and this is, as Christofferson said, an easy way for Sykes to score cheap political points.

The hilarious thing about all of this is Wigderson. His questioning whether Doyle and Christofferson would even think about putting their kids in MPS is hilarious. Hmmm, wasn’t it just a couple weeks ago that Wigderson was gleefully advertising himself after his “scared little suburbanite” piece hit the net. Where do your kids go to school, James? Before you ask, mine go to West Allis public schools.

So, just cut it out. For you (along with Sykes) to say you have any sympathy for the plight of African Americans is disingenuous. Choice is all about reducing the tax load for wealthy whites and supplicating the Christian right wing…both whom Sykes panders to, as do you apparently.

Blow it out your ear. Christofferson owes no one an apology.

As for Jessica McBride and her silly free speech piece...She can’t even come up with an original name for her blog, so it’s not worth commenting other to say that she has way too much time on her hands…1,500 words, come on.

School Choice Audio Misleading

I clicked on the audio regarding school choice (provided over at Widgerson Library & Pub)…excuse me, but putting Jim Doyle in the company of Orval Faubus and George Wallace is pathetic and wrong. Faubus and Wallace attempted to keep schools segregated. Where is the segregation here?

The fact remains that those who gain the most under school choice are not the working poor or minority communities, but the wealthy, who gain tax credits for something they already do (send their kids to private schools), and the Christian Right, who are eager to use their vouchers to fund a religious education.

The sad fact is that those who have voted for Republicans because of the imaginary “culture war” have been used. The Republicans who go around with Jesus on their lips and little crosses on their lapels are by and large the least Christian among us…they’re the crooks, serial divorcers, philanderers, drug users, tax cheats, bigots, hypocrites, draft dodgers, bribe-takers, the Fred Phelps of the world.

Jimmy Carter was probably the most sincere Christian to occupy the White House in our lifetime. Look at the work he has done since leaving the presidency. What has George Sr. done…jump out of airplanes and shill for the Saudis. What has John Ashcroft done…piled up more than $265,000 being a lobbyist for the corporations that have benefited most from laws put in effect by the Patriot Act. What have Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff, Ralphie Reed, “Duke” Cunningham done other than line their pockets or the pockets of their K Street clients (and the Repugs in Wisconsin haven’t a thing to say about the corruption but worry their silly asses over $700 that a local casino kept…via Jeff Wagner…a fine way to use up the hot air waves). Pathetic.

I understand getting a soundbite is part of the shallow hell that our political climate has become, but a lot of the exchanges makes it clear that most of the Democrats think they’re a tough question away from getting Alito to blurt out some incriminating remark like “Abortion is worse than the holocaust” or “the President should be considered a monarch”. But I fear that the hunt for a smoking gun is coming at the expense of helping the American people figure out who the hell this Alito guy is. Link to read more.

Hmmm...my first post. I'll start with the Packers. In Wisconsin, one is always safe discussing the Packers. I like the Mike McCarthy pick as coach. Why? Mainly because he is from Pittsburgh. They make them tough in Pittsburgh. If there was one thing that I think has been lacking from the Packers (other than Favre) it is toughness.

I also like that he immediately stated that all that was needed for the Packers was retooling, not rebuilding. The Pack does not need to rebuild. They have a lot of young talent. And they gained experience this year. Now let's hope that Favre hangs around one more year at least.
